How Dana learned to love to polish silver...

Dana's mother loved to entertain, and her father's long career as a Fighter Pilot provided plenty of opportunities to get out the china and silver for friends and family. Dana always loved to make the silver shine, and from a very young age, became the Family Silver "expert" - a role her mother commemorated in this sketch (below).

This early start in table setting and silver polishing turned into a hobby and then a passion, taking Dana on a pilgrimage internationally, to The London Silver Vaults, to many historic homes and museums in the United States, and to the prestigious metals workshop at the Penland School.

Dana is currently employed by Texas State Preservation Board. This state agency is proudly known for being the "Caretaker" for The Texas State Capitol Building, Texas Governors' Mansion, Texas State Cemetery, Texas State Visitors Center, and the Bullock Museum.

Dana's Business-

Sterling Hills Silver, was created not very long after graduating from College

in 1987, although it has evolved into several services involving Silver and it's care. (A Silver Service)

She also spends a lot of her time in museums, antique shops and at her workshop

in Austin, Texas where she takes pride in never missing a chance to promote the love and use of fine silver, for which her light and humorous educational/workshops and speeches; entitled:

"What are you saving it for?" is becoming a local favorite.

"A Silver Affair" February 3, 2018 at The Austin Club, Austin,Texas USA

Last February, I was very honored to be asked to speak to fellow Austin Club members about Silver.  My speech was entitled "What are you saving it for"  a lightly humorous speak about silver today, and what we need to do these days to get people to bring their silver out of the boxes, attics, closets, and not be afraid to use their silver every day!.  It was a fun night and I had three tables decorated; two for Valentine's day and one Mardi Gras party table.  We had an open question and answer time, suggestions, and tips on cleaning and using your silver.  Definitely- the most warm and lovely crowd, all Silver lovers!

Last Year- My Scottish -Celtic Heritage and my Love of Collies, have allowed me and my sweet, beautiful Collies; Avery (aka-Moose) and Rory, to participate in more than a few Celtic festivals and events!  Moose is a Therapy dog who is a member of Austins' Divine Canines- a Therapy Dog Group that gives therapeutic visits to more than 60 locations in Austin, Texas.
